Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Regardless of the option chosen the previous day, this stage enters into the heart of Galicia, on a terrain of continuous undulations. The journey is long and demanding, with the main milestone being arrival at the Monastery of Oseira, known as "The Galician Escorial". This impressive Cistercian abbey, nestled in a solitary valley, is a must-visit destination and a haven of peace. After the visit, the path continues along its rocky profile, crossing forests and meadows until the Deza region, finishing near Lalín, capital gastronomic of the region.
This stage is one of the most beautiful and complete sections of the Camino Sanabrés. The main attraction is the Monastery of Santa María la Real in Oseira. Whether starting from Cea or the vicinity of San Cibrao de Las, the paths converge to reach this jewel of Cistercian architecture. The monastery, founded in the 12th century, is breathtakingly beautiful. Its church, cloisters and especially its spectacular chapter house are must-see attractions. The atmosphere of peace and spirituality that pervades Oseira is one of the great experiences of the route. After leaving the monastery, the path continues with an demanding profile, a continuous up-and-down that traverses the heart of rural Galicia. The stage enters the province of Pontevedra and the Deza comarca. The final stage ends in the vicinity of Lalín, usually in the parish of A Laxe or at the very Station of Lalín. This area is known for its excellent cuisine, with "Cocido de Lalín" as a star dish, offering a delicious reward to the pilgrim.
