Stage Description
This is the penultimate stage of the Camino Sanabrés, a long day that ventures into the territories near Santiago. The profile remains undulating, Galician "stomping grounds", but without the great mountain difficulties of previous days. The path passes through Silleda, an important service center. The most notable milestone is crossing the Ulla River by the historic Ponte Ulla bridge. The landscape is rural and pleasant, with growing excitement at the proximity of the destination. The final stage ends in the small village of Outeiro, a quiet place to spend the last night before arriving at Compostela.
The penultimate stage of the Camino Sanabrés is a long journey that brings the pilgrim to the gates of Santiago. The route follows an undulating profile, crossing the comarcas of Deza and Ulla. It passes through Silleda, a village with all services, known for its international fair. A highly recommended detour in this area is a visit to Fervenza (waterfall) do Toxa, one of Galicia's highest waterfalls. The key point of the stage is arriving at the valley of the Ulla River, one of the great rivers of Galicia. It crosses over the imposing Ponte Ulla bridge, a place of great landscape beauty. Overcome by the river, the final large ascent of the Camino Sanabrés begins, an demanding climb that takes the pilgrim to Outeiro Alto. From here, on clear days, one can almost feel the presence of Santiago. The stage ends in the small village of Outeiro, in the concello of Vedra, a perfect place for the last and tranquil night of pilgrimage.
