Stage Description
This 18.9km stage is a comfortable and flat journey that brings the pilgrim closer to the city of León. The road is a long straight path that runs through the Leonesan plain, often alongside the highway, through a monotonous but peaceful agricultural landscape. The route passes through the intermediate town of Reliegos, known for its subterranean cellars dug into the earth. The final stage ends in the historic village of Mansilla de las Mulas, an important medieval stronghold that preserves much of its impressive stone wall.
The 18.9 km journey between El Burgo Ranero and Mansilla de las Mulas is another stage of pure Meseta leonesa, flat and without technical difficulties. The road advances along a dirt track that runs parallel to the highway, in a landscape dominated by horizontality and fields of cultivation.
It's an intermediate stage that allows for comfortable and fast walking. The only intermediate town on the route is Reliegos, a small village that stands out for its numerous underground cellars, visible through chimneys of ventilation emerging from the ground. It's a good place to make a brief stop.
After Reliegos, the road continues along the same straight path. As you approach the end of the stage, the landscape begins to be a bit greener due to the proximity of the Esla River.
The arrival in Mansilla de las Mulas is the highlight of the day. This historic village, whose name refers to its importance as a center for livestock markets, welcomes the pilgrim with an imposing medieval bridge over the Esla River, eight arches high. Mansilla preserves much of its medieval wall, built with stone blocks, as well as some of its access gates. Its Plaza del Grano and covered streets invite strolling and enjoying the atmosphere of a village with a deep jacobean tradition.
