Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage offers a long and pronounced descent from the high mountain to the valley of the River Sarria. The profile is demanding for the knees, but the landscape is of great beauty. The route passes through rural Galicia, with beech and oak forests, and small villages. The main incentive of the journey is the arrival at the impressive Monastery of Samos, one of the oldest and most important monastic centers in Spain. Its visit is obligatory and offers an end to the stage of incalculable cultural and spiritual value.
This long stage is the departure of Catalonia on the Way of St James, an demanding route with slopes that enters into the interior of Aragon. The path crosses a landscape of steppes and forests, with panoramic views of the mountains. The arrival in Borja, a village with a rich Mudéjar and Renaissance heritage, is a monumental final stage. It's a stage that requires good physical preparation, but rewards with a first-class destination.
