Stage Description
This stage enters the foothills of the Pyrenees. The profile becomes more demanding, with a continuous rise and fall through a landscape of hills and valleys. The route passes through villages with charm. The destination is Saint-Palais, a village with a rich heritage and an animated atmosphere. It's a transition phase that prepares the pilgrim for crossing the border.
From the quiet Hasparren, this 20-kilometer stage enters Baja Navarre, a landscape of gentle hills and valleys. The route runs over an undulating terrain with little difficulty, passing through a rural environment of great beauty. The road is dotted with small villages and farmhouses, in a mosaic of green meadows, oak forests, and fields of cultivation. It's a transition day that brings the pilgrim closer to the Pyrenees. The final stage ends in Saint-Palais, an historic village that was the capital of the Kingdom of Navarre. Its St. Paul church and its imposing "mill gate" are of great interest. Saint-Palais is an important service center on the route, a strategic point where several roads converge, allowing the pilgrim to rest and prepare for the final stage to Ostabat.
