Stage Description

As soon as you leave the urban area, this stage enters the Manchegan plain. It is a long and flat day that runs along dirt tracks between fields of cultivation. The route is monotonous but invites meditation, with infinite horizons and wide skies. The lack of shadows makes it a hard stage in summer. The destination, Daimiel, is an important town in the region and the gateway to one of Spain's natural treasures: the Tablas de Daimiel National Park, an invaluable wetland.
The stage connecting Miguelturra with Daimiel is an immersion into the landscape of La Mancha. The road is predominantly flat, advancing along dirt tracks that disappear into the horizon, through a plain dedicated to cereal and vine cultivation. The sense of vastness and solitude is the dominant note of the journey. The pilgrim must be prepared for exposure to sun and wind, signs of identity of the South Plateau. The route passes near the archaeological site of Motilla del Azuer, an ancient settlement of great interest. Arrival in Daimiel, a city with a great tradition and all services, is the end of the stage. Daimiel is worldwide known for being the entrance to the National Park of the Tables of Daimiel, an unique ecosystem of wetland that constitutes a paradise for water birds. Although the park is located just a few kilometers from the city, its visit is a highly recommended natural experience for the pilgrim who has time.
