Discover A Guarda
A Guarda is the spectacular entrance to Galicia for pilgrims completing the Portuguese Way of the Coast. After crossing the Miño River by ferry from Caminha, this maritime town offers an unforgettable welcome. Its greatest treasure is Monte Santa Trega, a magical place that combines nature, archaeology, and breathtaking panoramic views. At its summit stands one of the most important and well-preserved Galician-Roman castles in northwest Iberia. For the pilgrim, climbing the mountain and gazing at the Miño River's mouth, the Galician coast, and the vast Atlantic Ocean is a moment of profound connection with history and landscape. The town of A Guarda, with its lively fishing port, is famous for lobster and seafood products, offering an excellent opportunity to taste the cuisine of Rías Baixas. With hostels and all necessary services, it's a perfect start for the Galician stage of the Camino de Santiago.
