Discover Abadía de Montecassino

The Abbey of Monte Cassino, majestuously situated at the top of a hill that dominates the city of Cassino, is the endpoint and spiritual culmination of the Camino di San Benedetto. Founded by Saint Benedict of Nursia in 529, it is considered the motherhouse of the Benedictine Order and one of the most important spiritual and cultural beacons of Western civilization. It was here that Saint Benedict wrote his famous Rule, which has guided monastic life for over 1,500 years. The abbey has been destroyed and rebuilt four times, the last after the devastating bombing of World War II, becoming a powerful symbol of resilience and the survival of faith. For the pilgrim, the final ascent to the abbey is a moment of great emotion. A visit to the basilica, which houses the tombs of Saint Benedict and Saint Scholastica, and its museum, with its valuable manuscripts, is an immersion in European history. Arriving at Monte Cassino completes a circle, the end of a journey that began in the cradle of the saint and ends in his monumental legacy.
