Discover Anagni

Anagni is an historic city of Latium with a glorious medieval past, known as "The City of the Popes" for being the birthplace of four popes. For pilgrims on the Southern Via Francigena, it's an indispensable cultural stop. Its main jewel is the Cathedral of Saint Mary, a magnificent Romanesque temple whose crypt, featuring its stunning 13th-century frescoes, is considered the "Sistine Chapel of the Middle Ages". Its historic center, with the Papal Palace (the scene of the famous "slap of Anagni") and its medieval streets, transports the visitor to another era. It's a stage for immersing oneself in the history of the papacy and Italian medieval art.
