Discover Balugães
Balugães is a parish in the municipality of Barcelos, in the heart of the Portuguese Minho, crossed by the classic route of the Central Portuguese Way between Barcelos and Ponte de Lima. The village, with barely a thousand inhabitants, is organised around a medieval parish church and a handful of rural estates surrounded by "vinho verde" vineyards and pine groves. The landscape is essentially agricultural: cornfields, small family gardens and cobbled paths that pilgrims walk at the slow pace of the inner Minho villages. The chapel of Nossa Senhora da Aparecida, located on a nearby hill, is one of the devotional landmarks of the area and a reference for walkers stopping to rest. Balugães serves as an intermediate overnight stop that allows splitting the long stage between Barcelos and Ponte de Lima in two, offering rural houses and restored estates in a quiet setting, far from traffic and with all the calm of the rural Minho.
