Discover Basílica de San Isidoro de León

Although it is a monument within the city of León, the Royal Basilica of San Isidoro deserves its own mention for its extraordinary importance on the French Way and in the history of art. Considered one of the cradles of Spanish Romanesque, it is an absolutely indispensable stop for any pilgrim or visitor. Its greatest treasure is the Pantheon of the Kings of León, nicknamed "The Sixteenth Century Chapel of Romanesque Art" due to its stunning and well-preserved twelfth-century murals, which narrate biblical scenes with astonishing mastery. Visiting this space is one of the most awe-inspiring moments on the Way of St. James. The basilica also houses a valuable museum with unique pieces such as the Chalice of Doña Urraca, which some theories identify with the Holy Grail. For the pilgrim, San Isidoro is not just a monument but a place of deep spirituality and connection to the history of the kingdoms that protected and promoted the Jacobean route. A visit enriches the stay in León, adding a layer of knowledge and amazement to the experience of pilgrimage.
