Discover Caravaca de la Cruz
Caravaca de la Cruz, in the Region of Murcia, is not just a stage on the Way of St. James, but an important pilgrimage destination by right. It is one of five unique cities in the world, along with Jerusalem, Rome, Santiago de Compostela and Santo Toribio de Liébana, that has the privilege of celebrating the Jubilee Year forever. Its importance lies in the relic it custodies: the impressive Sanctuary of Caravaca, a fragment of the True Cross of the Lignum Crucis. For pilgrims walking the Southeastern Way (in its variants), a stop in Caravaca is a moment of deep spirituality and faith. The city, dominated by the Real Alcázar-Sanctuary complex, offers rich historical and religious heritage. The medieval old town and the Fiestas in Honor to the Holy and True Cross, with the Wine Horses, are of great interest. It's a stop that enriches the Jacobean pilgrimage greatly, allowing the pilgrim to gain the jubilee and connect with one of the major Christian pilgrimage traditions.
