Constance (Constanza), situated on the German shore of the lake with the same name, is an university town with a vibrant atmosphere and a magnificent medieval old town that survived the bombing raids of World War II. It is famous for hosting the Council of Constance in the 15th century, an event that changed the history of the Church. For pilgrims, it is an important starting or stopping point on the Via Jacobi. Its Cathedral, the port with the "Imperia" statue and Mainau Island (the flower island) are its main attractions.
