Discover Faro Vilán

The Lighthouse of Cape Vilán, near Camariñas, is one of the most powerful, majestic and historically rich lighthouses in Spain, and a fundamental stop on the Way of the Lighthouses. It was the first electric lighthouse in Spain, built in 1896 after the tragic sinking of the English ship "Serpent" in 1890, which cost the lives of 173 crew members. This incident highlights the danger of this stretch of the Costa da Morte coast. For the hiker, the arrival at the lighthouse is impressive. It is located on a rocky and steep headland, connected to land by a covered passageway, and the lighthouse building, now converted into an interpretation center, is of great beauty. The surroundings are of wild and virgin nature, declared a National Natural Interest Site. The views of the ocean and cliffs are breathtaking. It's a place for reflecting on human fragility in the face of sea power and admiring the untamed beauty of an uncountable number of maritime stories and shipwrecks.
