Discover Guardo
Guardo, situated in the northeast of Palencia province, stands as the gateway to the Palentine Mountains and a fundamental stage on the Lebaniego Castellano Way. With an important past linked to coal mining, it is now the main hub for services in the region, offering pilgrims everything they need before tackling the most demanding and mountainous sections of the route. The landscape here changes dramatically, leaving behind the plains of the Campos de Tierra for the valleys and peaks of the Cantabrian Mountains. For the walker, Guardo is a strategic point for rest and replenishment. The town, situated along the Carrión River, has a good range of accommodation options and dining. It's a functional stop that allows pilgrims on the Way of Santiago to take one last big breath in an urban setting before fully immersing themselves in the wilder nature and spectacular landscapes that await them as they ascend towards the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana.
