The Town

Discover Lebrija

Lebrija, a historic village in the Seville marshlands, is a stop of great interest on the Via Augusta. The birthplace of humanist Antonio de Nebrija, author of the first Castilian grammar, the town boasts a rich cultural heritage. Its main jewel is the Church of Santa María de la Oliva, which combines elements of an ancient mosque with an impressive baroque tower, "The Giralda of the Countryside". The ruined castle and narrow streets of its old town invite a peaceful stroll, discovering the essence of rural Andalusia. For pilgrims, Lebrija offers authentic atmosphere, essential services, and the chance to connect with an important chapter in Spain's history, making it the perfect place to rest and absorb local culture before continuing on to Seville.
