The Town

Discover Ledigos

Ledigos is a small town in the Palencia region of Tierra de Campos, set at an altitude of 889 meters in the middle of the cereal-growing steppe. With just over fifty residents, it belongs to the judicial district of Carrión de los Condes, and for centuries its life has revolved around the Camino Francés, which crosses it from one end to the other.

Its most distinctive building is the 17th-century parish church of Santiago Apóstol, with a single nave covered by ribbed vaults. It holds an iconographic rarity that has made it famous among pilgrims: it depicts the three representations of the apostle, Santiago peregrino, Santiago apóstol and Santiago matamoros, something rarely seen in a rural church. On the outskirts stands the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Vallejera, and the memory of the old hospital of San Lázaro, torn down in 1752, recalls the town's vocation of hospitality.

Today Ledigos serves as a resting point three kilometers from Terradillos de los Templarios, on one of the longest and loneliest days of the route.
