Town of the Camino

Mos

A small village on the Portuguese Way between O Porriño and Redondela. The manor of the Marquises of Mos, the church of Santa Baia and Rúa dos Cabaleiros form one of the best-kept ensembles of the stage.

The Town

Discover Mos

Mos is the seat of the Pontevedra municipality of the same name and a small rural village that the Portuguese Way crosses between O Porriño and Redondela. It lies about six kilometres from O Porriño, just before the main climb of the day, and makes a natural halt for those who prefer to split the stage.

The route enters beside the manor house of the Marquises of Mos, restored as a cultural venue, and the parish church of Santa Baia. From there it climbs Rúa dos Cabaleiros, a cobbled street with a polychrome wayside cross, one of the most photographed on the Camino in Galicia. The slope then continues to the chapel of Santiaguiño de Antas, the highest point of the section.

Pilgrims have a public hostel and the odd private option, as well as a couple of bars beside the manor. Supply is limited, so in high season it is wise to book or plan to stay nearby.

Mos is a brief, restful stop, with a well-preserved stone ensemble that breaks up the more industrial landscape on the way out of O Porriño.
