Discover Pico Sacro
The Sacred Peak, a quartz mountain rising abruptly and singularly in the Ulla valley, is the last major geographical and symbolic milestone for pilgrims on the Via Plata and Camino Sanabrés before reaching Santiago de Compostela. With its 533 meters of altitude, this mountain is shrouded in an aura of magic and legend Jacobean. According to tradition, it was here where the disciples of Saint James defeated a dragon that terrified the area, thanks to divine intervention. For the pilgrim, the ascent to the Sacred Peak is a final effort rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. On clear days, from its summit for the first time one can see the towers of Santiago Cathedral, an overwhelming moment of emotion similar to that of Mount Gozo on the Camino Francés. At the top are the hermitage of Saint Sebastian and the remains of an ancient castle. It is more than a mountain; it is a place of power, a mystical prelude connecting the walker with the deepest roots of tradition before the final embrace with the destination Compostelian.
