Discover Puerto de Otsondo
The Otsondo Port is one of the most significant geographical landmarks on the Baztán Way. Located at an altitude of about 600 meters, this mountain pass does not stand out for extreme difficulty, but rather by the beauty of its panoramic views. For the pilgrim ascending from the Baztán Valley, reaching Otsondo is a great reward. From its summit, one can see in all its extent the lush valley left behind, with its scattered villages and green pastures. The ascent is gradual and unfolds through a beautiful landscape, through forests and grazing areas. At the top, a rest area allows the hiker to take a breath and enjoy the scenery before starting the descent towards the Oronoz-Mugaire Valley. It is not a village, but a way station, a moment of transition on the Way of St. James that separates two valleys and two landscape realities. It's a place to feel the vastness of the Navarre Pyrenees and the satisfaction of overcoming one of the main inclines of the route.
