Discover Sant Pere de Rodes

The Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, set in a spectacular natural setting of the Sierra de Rodes with views to Cap de Creus and the Mediterranean, is one of the most impressive and symbolic starting points of the Catalan Way (Camí de Sant Jaume). This jewel of Catalan Romanesque, seemingly suspended between heaven and sea, was one of the most important Benedictine monasteries in the peninsula. For pilgrims, starting here means beginning from a place loaded with history, spirituality, and overwhelming natural beauty. The path descends from the monastery into the interior, seeking Figueres and Girona. It is an demanding but unforgettable start to pilgrimage that connects the walker with ancient routes of pilgrims arriving by sea or from the other side of the Pyrenees. A visit to the church and cloisters of the monastery is an immersion in the splendor of medieval art. It is, without a doubt, a perfect prologue for those seeking a different, solitary, and uniquely beautiful start to the Camino de Santiago.
