The Town

Discover Seixas

Seixas is a parish in the municipality of Caminha, set on the Portuguese bank of the Minho estuary, about three kilometres from the town. Through it runs the variant which, instead of crossing to A Guarda, follows the river upstream towards Vila Nova de Cerveira and Valença to join the Central Portuguese Way in Tui.

The village stretches between the road, the railway line and the riverbank, with manor houses and estates that recall a past tied to seafaring and emigration. Devotion to Saint Benedict, who has his own chapel, is one of the parish's most deeply rooted traditions. From the shore you can see Mount Santa Trega, already in Galicia, on the far side of the river.

Pilgrims have a hostel and a few guest houses at their disposal, as well as cafés and a small shop. The riverside path makes for level walking with fine views of the estuary.

Seixas is a quiet, short stop from Caminha, suited to those who want to follow the Minho unhurriedly before entering Galicia through Valença.
