Discover Sierra de Guadarrama

The Sierra de Guadarrama represents the first major natural challenge and one of the most beautiful stages for the pilgrim walking the Madrid Route. This National Park, the green lung of the capital, offers a radical change in landscape, leaving behind asphalt to venture into an environment of high mountain. The Jacobean route crosses the sierra through historic passes such as the Puerto de la Fuenfría, following in part an ancient Roman road. The walker is immersed in a landscape of dense pine forests, granite peaks and crystal-clear streams. It's an demanding stage with considerable inclines, which puts the pilgrim's preparation to the test, but rewards with breathtaking views and a deep sense of peace and connection with nature. Crossing the Sierra de Guadarrama is a symbolic milestone on the Madrid Route, the overcoming of the natural barrier that separates the two mesas and the true entry into the Castilian lands that will lead the pilgrim towards the French Way. It's an unforgettable mountain experience on the route to Santiago.
