Sorde-l'Abbaye is a small locality in the Landes region that preserves an important Jacobean heritage. Its Saint-Jean Abbey, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is a magnificent example of Romanesque architecture with a notable mosaic inside. Situated at the confluence of the rivers (gaves) of Pau and Oloron, it offers a natural environment of great beauty. For pilgrims on the Way of Tours, it is a place of great spiritual and artistic significance. The village, peaceful and welcoming, allows for a restorative break. It is a place to connect with monastic history, enjoy the riverine landscape, and feel peace before the final stages towards the Pyrenees.
