Paris, a capital of France and one of the world's most influential cities, is the prestigious starting point of the Via Turonensis, the longest of the four major Jacobean routes in France. Starting the pilgrimage to Santiago from "the City of Light" is an monumental experience. The traditional "kilometer zero" is located at the Tour Saint-Jacques, a Gothic tower that is all that remains of an old pilgrim church. Before embarking on a 1000 km journey through France, the pilgrim can immerse themselves in universal heritage: Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum, the Eiffel Tower or Montmartre neighborhood are just some of their endless attractions. Paris is a metropolis that offers all imaginable services to prepare for the pilgrimage. The road leaves the great city seeking south, towards Orleans and the Loire Valley, in an initial urban stretch that gradually gives way to countryside. It's a starting point of the route that combines the grandeur of a world capital with humility and purpose of the pilgrim journey.
