Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
A transitional stage between the Sierra de Atapuerca and the city of Burgos. The Camino leaves Atapuerca climbing to the alto de Matagrande, a stony ridge from which you get the first panoramic view of Burgos set against the meseta and, in the distance, the outline of its cathedral. After the descent, the itinerary crosses the villages of the alfoz, Cardeñuela Riopico and Orbaneja, and faces the long and at times monotonous entry into the city, which can be made easier by following the variant along the river Arlanzón. The day ends in front of the cathedral of Santa María, a Gothic jewel and the undisputed goal of the day.
