Stage Description

A short, restful stage through the heart of the Terra de Deza, ideal as a recovery day or to link with the next one. The path leaves Botos and passes beside the church of Santa Eulalia de Donsión, of Romanesque origin, before stringing together the settlements of Vilasoa, Pedrouzos and Prado, at times following the line of the N-525 and at times taking the sunken lanes that avoid it. The profile is almost flat, with short climbs where the streams are crossed, and runs through a landscape of fenced meadows, maize fields, hórreos and copses of oak and eucalyptus. The arrival in Silleda, a municipal capital with full services, leaves the pilgrim barely two days from Santiago.
A little over eight and a half kilometres separate Botos from Silleda, which makes this the shortest stage of the Galician section of the Camino Sanabrés. Its purpose is clear: to rest the legs before the final push towards Santiago, or to let anyone who reached Botos late complete the day without pressure.

The path leaves Botos and the Lalín station to enter the parish of Donsión, where the church of Santa Eulalia preserves Romanesque elements and an atrium with a wayside cross that invites a short stop. This is an area of scattered settlement, with restored farmhouses, granite hórreos and small family vegetable plots alternating with hay meadows.

From there the route alternates stretches beside the N-525 with sunken lanes and tracks that draw away from the road, linking the settlements of Vilasoa, Pedrouzos and Prado. The profile is practically flat overall — Botos and Silleda stand at almost the same altitude — with short ups and downs where the stream hollows are crossed. In spring and autumn green dominates the landscape absolutely; the eucalyptus, ever more present, mixes with the last native oak groves.

Silleda welcomes the pilgrim in lands that already announce the district of Trasdeza. It is a town with full services — supermarkets, pharmacy, restaurants and several accommodation options — and the seat of Galicia's trade fair grounds. Within its municipal boundary, somewhat off the route, lies the Toxa waterfall, the highest single drop in Galicia at over sixty metres, beside the monastery of San Lorenzo de Carboeiro, one of the most impressive Romanesque ensembles of inland Galicia. Anyone with a free afternoon should not let the chance pass.
