Stage Description
Stage through inland Cantabria bordering the Ebro reservoir. The 18 km run through the region of Campoo, high Cantabrian plain at an altitude of more than 800 m between the Cordel peaks and the Cantabrian mountain range. Reinosa is the capital of Campoo, with its historic center, emblazoned houses and livestock tradition. It is a key point on the Hapsburg Way before entering the valleys of Palencia.
The stage between Novés and Escalona is a pleasant stage that approaches the valley of the River Alberche. The profile is gentle, without great difficulties. The landscape is a mix of cultivated fields and oak woodlands. Arrival in Escalona is the highlight of the day. This village, of great importance during the Middle Ages, is dominated by its impressive Mudéjar castle-palace, which overlooks the River Alberche. Walking along its walls and enjoying the views is an unforgettable experience. The village also has a beautiful Plaza Mayor covered portico and a medieval bridge. It's the perfect end to the stage for history and nature lovers.
