Stage Description
This stage involves a change of scenery, leaving the valley to begin ascending the foothills of the Sierra de Gádor. It is an intermediate level of difficulty, with a gradual ascent. The path traverses a drier and more mountainous landscape, characteristic of Almería's interior. The route offers panoramic views of the valley left behind. Arrival in Alhama de Almería, a town known for its thermal waters since Roman times, offers the pilgrim the possibility of a relaxing bath and well-deserved rest in a beautiful natural setting.
The stage that unites Gádor with Alhama de Almería marks the beginning of the ascent into the interior mountains. The profile of the journey is a continuous but stretched ascent, which prepares the pilgrim for the more difficult mountain stages that will come. The landscape changes, and the orange groves of the plain give way to a drier and rockier environment, dotted with olive trees and almond trees. The route runs on dirt tracks and local roads, in an atmosphere of great tranquility. As altitude is gained, views of the Andarax valley become increasingly spectacular. Alhama de Almería, the destination, is an oasis in this landscape. Known since ancient times for its thermal waters, the town offers the pilgrim the opportunity to enjoy a bath in its spa, an ideal reward after the walk. Its old town, with its narrow and whitewashed streets, and its church, are of great interest. It is a perfect final stage to combine the effort of the journey with relaxation and well-being.
