Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
First cycling stage of the Camino Sanabrés, a branch of the Camino Mozárabe-Vía de la Plata that separates towards Galicia after Zamora. From Granja de Moreruela, where the ruin of the Cistercian monastery founded in 1158 is located, the route crosses the dam of the Esla river and advances through the region of Tierra de Campos in Zamora. The 35 km run along rural tracks between holm oaks and cereal fields. Santa Croya de Tera is a small hamlet on the banks of the river Tera, anteroom of the valley of Sanabria.
This long stage is an authentic challenge that says goodbye to Andalusia to enter Extremadura. The route is a constant up and down through Sierra Morena. It's a day of great beauty and physical demand. Arrival at Monesterio, the entrance gate to the Via de la Plata in Extremadura, is a final stage with charm. It's a stage of overcoming, which marks the entry into the land of the conquerors.
