Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

First cycling stage of the Camino de San Salvador, which links León with Oviedo following the historic route of King Alfonso II to the sanctuary of El Salvador. The departure from León follows the route of the Bernesga river valley to the north, passing through La Robla and Pola de Gordón, before facing the ascent to the Pajares pass, a historic pass between the León plateau and Asturias. A demanding stage for cyclists with long stretches of continuous ascent, ideal for preparing the legs before crossing the Cantabrian Mountains the following day.
The Sarria to Ferreiros stage is a short 12 km journey that is the first for many pilgrims. The trail starts in Sarria (450 m) and follows an undulating profile with a gentle ascent towards Ferreiros (600 m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape, with forests and meadows. It's a pleasant walk that allows you to enjoy the scenery and the peregrine atmosphere. The arrival at Ferreiros, a small village with a Romanesque church, is an authentic stage end. This stage combines gentle exercise with rich historical experience, a perfect balance on the French Way.
