Stage Description
This stage concludes the extension to Costa da Morte, leading the pilgrim from the peaceful Lires estuary to the mystical sanctuary of Muxía. The route returns close to the coast, offering spectacular views of wild beaches such as Rostro. The path is a constant up and down through solitary and beautiful terrain. The arrival in Muxía and the final visit to the Santuario da Virxe da Barca, nestled among rocks by the sea, is an unforgettable experience, a loaded Camino ending with legends, natural force and spirituality.
The stage that connects Lires to Muxía is the crowning glory of the extension of the Camino along the Costa da Morte. It's a beautiful journey that brings the pilgrim back to the first line of coast. The path leaves Lires and, after an interior stretch, peeks at the stunning beach of Rostro, a vast sandy wild battered by waves. The route continues over a terrain of continuous ups and downs, with spectacular ocean views. The final stretch offers the first glimpses of the Muxía peninsula. The arrival in the marina village is the precursor to the most special moment: visiting the Sanctuary of Virxe da Barca. This temple, located in a magical enclave, surrounded by rocks that, according to legend, are the remains of the stone boat in which the Virgin appeared to Saint James, is an experience to be contemplated. Watching the sea crash against the rocks ("Pedra de Abalar", "Pedra dos Cadrís") is a powerful experience. Muxía, with its maritime atmosphere and deep symbolic charge, is a perfect Camino finale, a place for reflection and connection with pure nature.
