Stage Description
This stage has deep spiritual significance. Crossing the long wooden bridge of Rapperswil, the path ascends through the Etzelpass to reach the majestic Abbey of Einsiedeln, the most important Marian sanctuary in Switzerland. It is a pilgrimage journey of excellence, combining physical effort with the reward of arriving at a place of great devotion. The abbey, with its Black Virgin, is a center of faith that welcomes pilgrims from all over the world.
The Rapperswil to Einsiedeln stage is a 16.5km journey of great spiritual significance. The route begins at Rapperswil (409m) and follows an ascending profile, with continuous ascent to Einsiedeln (900m). The route passes through a landscape of great beauty, with views of Zurich Lake and the Alps. It's a demanding hike that requires good physical preparation. Arrival at Einsiedeln Abbey is a moment of great emotion. It's one of Europe's most important Marian shrines. Its baroque basilica and Black Virgin are of exceptional beauty. This stage combines a great physical challenge with total immersion in history and spirituality.
