Stage Description
This long and demanding stage brings the pilgrim to the Pyrenees. The route is a continuous up-and-down through the hills of Bearn. It's a day to enjoy the beauty of the landscape and the first views of the mountain range. Arrival in Orthez, an historic city with a fortified bridge and rich heritage, is a monumental reward. This stage requires good physical preparation but rewards with a top-class destination.
The stage from Hagetmau to Orthez is a 36 km long journey that brings the pilgrim closer to the Pyrenees. The route starts at Hagetmau (110 m) and follows a mainly descending profile, although with some undulations, until the city of Orthez (70 m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape, with hills, forests and fields of cultivation. It is an demanding walk due to its length, but it rewards with the beauty of its scenery and the monumental grandeur of the destination. Arrival in Orthez is a moment of great emotion. The city, with its fortified bridge and rich heritage, is an architectural gem. Its heritage and lively atmosphere make it one of the most important stops on the route.
