Stage Description
Cyclotourist stage through the interior Galicia of Ourense. The 28 km link Xunqueira de Ambía with San Cristovo de Cea, passing through Ourense capital and its famous Roman bridge over the Miño and the thermal Burgas. The route combines stretches of greenway with rural roads through Ribeiro vineyards and Atlantic forests. Cea is the Galician capital of traditional bread, with a communal oven and the celebration of the Feira do Pan (Bread Fair) in July.
The last stage of the Via de la Plata before joining the Camino Francés is an enjoyable descent to the monumental city of Mérida. The path traverses a rural and solitary landscape, contrasting with the large city that approaches. Arrival in Mérida, with its impressive Roman heritage, World Heritage Site, is a spectacular final stage. It's a day to enjoy the anticipation of arriving at one of Spain's most important cities.
