Discover Benavente

Benavente, one of the most important cities in Zamora province, is a historic crossroads and a fundamental milestone for pilgrims on several routes. It's the endpoint of the Southeastern Way and fully integrates into the Silver Road, offering the walker a great service center before tackling the final stages in Castile and León. Its most iconic monument is the Shell Tower, the only remnant of what was once a luxurious Renaissance castle-palace, now converted into a Tourist Parador. The Church of Santa María del Azogue, with its five apses, and that of San Juan del Mercado are magnificent examples of Romanesque architecture in the region. For pilgrims, Benavente is an ideal place for rest, replenishment, and socialization, thanks to its lively commercial life and complete range of accommodations and dining options. Situated at the confluence of rivers Esla and Órbigo, it's a strategic stop that allows pilgrims to recharge their strength and enjoy the rich Zamorano heritage before continuing on to Santiago de Compostela.
