Discover Fossanova

The Abbey of Fossanova is one of the most pure and best preserved examples of Gothic-Cistercian architecture in Italy. For pilgrims on the Southern branch of the Francigena Way, a visit is an experience of first order both spiritually and artistically. In this monastery, the famous theologian Saint Thomas Aquinas died in 1274, and one can visit the room where he spent his last days. The whole complex, with its imposing church, cloister, and monastic dependencies, is surrounded by a medieval burg that has preserved its charm. It is a place of great peace and beauty, ideal for contemplation and to immerse oneself in the history of the Cistercian order.
