Ivrea, an important city in the Italian region of Piedmont, is a significant stop on the Via Francigena after descending from the Alps. Bounded by the Dora Baltea river, the city boasts a rich historical heritage, with its red brick castle, Santa Maria Cathedral, and interesting old town. However, Ivrea is world-famous for its historic Carnival, which culminates in the spectacular "Battle of Oranges", a tradition of great strength and symbolism. For pilgrims, Ivrea is an important center of services and a place to immerse oneself in Piedmont's history and traditions. The city, also recognized as "Industrial City of the 20th Century" by UNESCO for its legacy linked to Olivetti, offers a contrast between its medieval past and modern industrial history.
