The Town

Discover Nájera

Nájera, set on the banks of the Najerilla River, is a city with a royal past and deep ties to the Camino de Santiago. It was the court of the Kingdom of Pamplona-Nájera, and that legacy is evident in the imposing Monastery of Santa María la Real. Founded in the 11th century, this monastery houses the Panteón de los Reyes, where monarchs of Navarre, León and Castile lie at rest, making it a place of great historical importance. Its Claustro de los Caballeros, with exquisite Gothic tracery, is one of the wonders of the Camino. For the pilgrim, Nájera is a stop not to be missed, a place to immerse yourself in Spain's medieval history, enjoy Riojan hospitality and recover strength in monumental surroundings before continuing on toward Santo Domingo de la Calzada.
