Discover Nevers
Nevres, the capital of the Duchy of Nivernais on the banks of the Loire River, is an important stop on the Via Lemovicensis, offering pilgrims a rich mix of artistic heritage and spirituality. The city is famous for its faïence ceramics, with its characteristic "blue of Nevers" color. For walkers, religious heritage is notable, with the Cathedral of Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte, which has the particularity of having two opposing apses, and the Romanesque church of Saint-Étienne. However, many pilgrims visit Nevres for its deep connection to Saint Bernadette Soubirous. It was in the convent of Saint-Gildard where the visionary of Lourdes spent her last years, and her incorrupt body rests in a crystal urn in the chapel, attracting numerous devotees. With an interesting old town and all necessary services, Nevres is a stage that allows to unite traditional Jacobean with Marian Lourdes, a spiritual stop of great richness on the Way of St. James.
