Discover Seyssel
Seyssel is one of the most singular and picturesque stops on the Via Gebennensis. Its main characteristic is that it is divided into two by the majestic Rhone River: Seyssel (Ain) on the right bank and Seyssel (Haute-Savoie) on the left, united by a historic bridge. For pilgrims, crossing this bridge is a milestone marking the passage between two departments. The locality, nestled in a beautiful natural environment, is famous for its white wines with Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée status. The Jacobean route here becomes more gentle, following the riverbank and offering a pleasant rest after the first stages. It is an ideal place to enjoy tranquility, sample local cuisine, and admire a landscape where the river is the main attraction. With basic services for walkers, Seyssel offers an authentic experience of rural Savoy, a haven of peace on the route connecting Geneva with Le Puy-en-Velay, highlighting the historical importance of the Rhone as a communication and pilgrimage route.
