Verín, the capital of Monterrei comarca in Ourense, is a major stop on the Camino Sanabrés, offering pilgrims a rich combination of history, oenology and well-being. The town is dominated by the imposing silhouette of Monterrei Castle, one of Galicia's best-preserved fortresses, which rises on a hill and offers stunning views of the valley. For walkers, Verín is an oasis of services and a perfect place to rest. It is famous for its mineral waters, with springs such as Cabreiroá or Sousas, allowing pilgrims to recover. Additionally, the region is the birthplace of the Monterrei Denomination of Origin, making it the perfect opportunity to taste its excellent wines, especially Godello and Mencía varieties. The old town of Verín, with its churches and squares, invites a peaceful stroll. In the context of the Vía de la Plata, Verín is a cultural and revitalizing landmark, a stop that nourishes both body and spirit before continuing on to Santiago.
