Introduction to Rías Baixas

The Maritime Route of the Muros-Noia Estuary, also known as "Camino de la Ría de Muros-Noia" or "Traslatio", is a Jacobean itinerary that commemorates the legend of the Apostle Santiago's arrival in Galicia by sea. This route combines maritime and fluvial segments, starting from the entrance to the Muros and Noia estuary and ascending along the Tambre River until near Santiago, or connecting with the Portuguese Way in Padrón. Although pilgrimages can also be made on land bordering the estuary (approximately 120 km), its uniqueness lies in the possibility of doing so by boat. It is a route of great scenic beauty, allowing visitors to discover the natural and cultural richness of this Galician estuary and connect with the origins of Jacobean tradition.

History of Rías Baixas

The history of the Camino de la Ría de Muros-Noia is the history of the very foundation legend of Santiago de Compostela: the "Traslatio". It's not a trail made of earth forged by the passage of thousands of pilgrims, but a maritime and terrestrial itinerary that remembers the most important journey of all, the one of the stone boat that, according to tradition, transported the body of Saint James from Palestine to the Galician coast.
