Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

The queen stage of the Camino Sanabrés by bicycle and the toughest of the route. From A Gudiña the route descends through Campobecerros and Portocamba to Laza, in the Val do Camba, a town known for its Entroido and its peliqueiros. From there begins the most demanding climb of the way, up to A Alberguería, a mountain hamlet famous for the bar O Rincón do Peregrino and its thousands of scallop shells signed by pilgrims. After topping out, the terrain opens up onto the plateau of the Val de Ambía, passing through Vilar de Barrio to Xunqueira de Ambía, home to the Real Colegiata de Santa María la Real, a jewel of the Romanesque of Ourense. Some 67 km with heavy cumulative ascent: the day to leave the widest margin for.
