Stage Description
Stage along the Arousa estuary linking A Illa de Arousa with Vilanova de Arousa. We cross the bridge again and continue along the east bank of the estuary passing through O Grove and traditional shellfish areas. Vilanova de Arousa is famous for being the birthplace of the writer Ramón María del Valle-Inclán (whose house-museum is preserved) and for its seafaring tradition. Historical embarkation point of the Translatio of the body of the apostle Santiago according to the Jacobean tradition.
The Oporto to Vilarinho stage is a 27 km journey that ventures into Portuguese countryside. The route starts in Oporto (10 m) and follows an undulating profile with a gentle ascent towards Vilarinho (80 m). The route traverses a beautiful landscape, with forests and fields of cultivation. It's a demanding walk due to its length, but it rewards with the beauty of its scenery and the tranquility of its surroundings. Arrival in Vilarinho, a small village in rural surroundings, is an authentic stage end. This stage combines gentle exercise with rich historical experience, a perfect balance on the Portuguese Way.
