Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
A short and gentle stage that enters a more wooded landscape. The road runs along paths that traverse forests of eucalyptus and pine, in an environment of great tranquility. It is a journey to enjoy nature and silence. The route passes through small villages before arriving at Albergaria-a-Velha, a town whose name already evokes its past as a place of hospitality for pilgrims ("Albergaria"). The village, of medieval origin, offers a well-deserved rest in an historic and peaceful atmosphere.
The stage between Águeda and Albergaria-a-Velha is a short and pleasant journey, allowing for a relaxed walk. The path leaves the valley to enter an area of rolling hills covered in lush forests. The profile is a gentle ascent, almost imperceptible. The route is of great beauty, mostly following forest trails and ancient stone-paved roads, far from traffic. It passes through the small village of Mourisca do Vouga, with its medieval bridge. This stage is for enjoying nature in its purest form and feeling like you're walking on a historic path. Arrival at Albergaria-a-Velha marks the end of the day. The town's own name ("Old Host") indicates its deep connection to the Jacobean pilgrimage. Founded to serve pilgrims, the village preserves an interesting heritage and offers a welcoming atmosphere. It is a quiet and ideal stage-end to connect with the deeper history of the Camino.
