Stage Description
This stage continues across the León plains, on a very gentle terrain. It is a transitional day that brings the pilgrim closer to Astorga. The landscape remains predominantly agricultural, with large areas of cultivation. The route is comfortable and allows for rapid progress. Arrival in La Bañeza, an important commercial and service city, offers the pilgrim everything needed for a good rest. Its lively atmosphere and rich cuisine, featuring beans and frog legs as specialties, make it a very recommended stop.
The journey between Alija del Infantado and La Bañeza is a transitional phase that runs over the south plains of León. The profile is very favorable, almost flat, allowing for comfortable walking with little effort. The landscape remains dominated by agricultural fields in a predominantly rural environment. The road advances on dirt tracks and local roads, in a route that, although monotonous, allows maintaining a good pace. Arrival at La Bañeza marks the end of the phase. This city is the capital of the comarca and an important center for services, with a great commercial tradition. Its Plaza Mayor, its church of Santa María, and its lively life make it an ideal place for the pilgrim's rest. Additionally, La Bañeza is famous for its cuisine, in which the chickpeas and frog legs stand out, as well as its carnivals, declared National Tourist Interest. It is a functional stop with a rich local life.
