Stage Description

Long stage of the Mozarabic that leaves Antequera after visiting the famous prehistoric dolmens (UNESCO World Heritage) and the Peña de los Enamorados. The road heads north through the Vega de Antequera region, passing by the wetlands of the Laguna de Fuente de Piedra, a natural refuge for flamingos. After about 25 km of predominantly flat profile we reach Villanueva de Algaidas, a small village in Malaga known for its Franciscan convent of the sixteenth century and its traditional Easter celebrations.
The stage that begins in Antequera is a undulating profile journey that enters the nor-eastern comarca of Málaga. The landscape is dominated by olive groves, which stretch out over a silver sea on the hills. It's a stage of great beauty and solitude. The arrival at Villanueva de Algaidas is the end of the stage. This town is famous for housing a singular rocky convent, excavated in the rock, that was the origin of the locality. Visiting the hermitage and caves is very interesting. It's a peaceful final stage with great flavor of history. The pilgrim can enjoy the hospitality of its people and the peace of the rural Andalusian surroundings.
