Stage Description
This stage continues the descent down the Besaya River valley. The landscape is becoming less mountainous and more populated and industrial as it approaches the coast. It's a transitional day, combining rural sections with more urbanized areas. The route remains pleasant, accompanied by the river and riverbank vegetation. Arrival at Los Corrales de Buelna, an important industrial and service hub in the region, marks the end of a stage that brings the pilgrim closer to the Cantabrian coast.
The stage that connects Bárcena de Pie de Concha with Los Corrales de Buelna is a continuation of the descent through the Besaya valley. The profile remains favorable, although with some undulations. The landscape changes, and the mountain gives way to a wider and more populated valley. The path alternates between riverbank sections and sectors that traverse an industrial landscape, reflecting the economic importance of this region. Several towns are passed through, which facilitates provision. Arrival at Los Corrales de Buelna, one of the most important villages in the region, is the end of the stage. The locality has a rich industrial heritage and all services that the pilgrim may need. It serves as a functional stop that precedes the last stage of the Calzada de los Blendios, which will take the walker to the same coastline of the Cantabrian Sea.
