Stage Description

This stage is the sum of the mythical Route of the Hospitals, one of the most difficult and beautiful of the Primitive Way. It's a long traverse through high mountain, without services, that demands excellent preparation. The landscape is alpine and spectacular. After passing the zone of ancient pilgrims' hospitals, the path descends into the valley. The destination is the small village of La Mesa, a haven of peace in high mountain, ideal for a well-deserved rest after an epic day.
This is one of the most beautiful and spiritual stages of the Wool Road. The route crosses the Yecla Gorge, a narrow gorge carved into the rock. It's a day of great natural beauty and solitude. Arrival in Mecerreyes, a charming town with a strong Jacobean tradition, is an authentic final stage. This stage combines a great physical challenge with the beauty of nature.
